Friends outline plans for Stubbylee Park

THE FRIENDS of Stubbylee Park working party has outlined its plans to improve the Bacup park after holding its first meeting.

Its long-term goals include setting up a bidding for lottery and grant money needed to erect new signage and invest in gardening tools.

Head gardener Paul Chestworth hosted a weekend workshop to help volunteers get to grips with their gardening knowledge.

Christine Lamb, one of the volunteers, said: “I didn't know anything about gardening, but we made a huge impact on the rose garden and managed to clear a whole bed.”

Barbara Pearson, chair of the Friends’ committee, said the group’s immediate target was to get the park looking its best for the StubbyFest festival on September 1.

She said: “The gardening morning was well attended and everybody enjoyed it but we need more people to get involved.

“If you care about the park and want to help look after it in any way at all please come along.

“Let’s see if we can get it looking beautiful for the festival.”
