£110,000 county grants are up for grabs in Rossendale

THIRD sector groups in the Valley are invited to apply for a second series of county council grants.

The Local Initiative Fund will provide £110,000 to charities and volunteer groups across eight Lancashire distrcits.

In May, the first round of awards caused controversy when Radcliffe Borough Community Trust, based in Bury, was awarded £5,000 ahead of other applicants from Haslingden, Bacup and Rawtenstall.

However the Trust declined to accept its funding when it said it could not guarantee that the activities it provided would benefit children within Rossendale’s borough borders.

As a result, Rossendale has funds left over from the first round and organisations wanting to deliver new projects have until 5pm on October 5 to apply for the grants Previously, Crawshawbooth Community Association was given £4,500 and East Lancashire autism charity Action for ASD was awarded £3,525.
