Tories select Lancashire Police Crime Commissioner
11:00pm Wednesday 18th July 2012 in Rossendale
THE Conservative candidate standing for Lancashire Police Crime Commissioner has been unveiled as County Coun Tim Ashton.
The Wyre-based councillor was selected by fellow party members at the De Vere Hotel, Blackpool, at the weekend.
He will now stand against stand against Labour candidate County Coun Clive Grunshaw on November 15.
The controversial Crime Commissioner post will take over from the Lancashire Police Authority and will hold the force to account.
County Coun Ashton, who lives in Lytham and is cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “I am very pleased to have been selected. I have worked very hard to make this happen and the role of crime commissioner is something I am very interested in.
“Lancashire Police does a great job, especially the neighbourhood policing teams, and I hope to be able to build on that good work.”
