Haslingden Cricket Club's bid for new facilities

NEW practice facilities are being sought by two of East Lancashire’s oldest-established Cricket clubs.

Officials at Haslingden Cricket Club are trying to secure funding from the England Cricket Board to revamp their Private Lane ground.

Four artificial lanes and a heavy-duty cage will be installed, to the rear of the existing clubhouse, if plans submitted to by the Lancashire League founder members are approved.

Club chairman Mark Rothwell said: “Our practice facilities are currently not at the standard in-keeping with a club of our status.

“We currently train on the main cricket field – this causes unnecessary wear and tear on the pitch plus difficulties when training sessions clash with junior matches.”

The club currently has three senior outfits and eight junior sides, and also regularly hosts the Rossendale Schools’ side.

Plans have also been unveiled for new nets by Rawtenstall Cricket Club for their Worsick Memorial Ground in Bacup Road.

The replacement facility would run along the Kay Street boundary.
