FALL Andrew Ormerod
A ROOFER from Rossendale has died after a fall while working at a property in the valley.
Self-employed plasterer Andrew Ormerod, 56, was working in Linden Lea on Friday afternoon when he fell from scaffolding.
Mr Ormerod, of Haslingden Road, Rawtenstall, was a former sportsman who played for Rossendale Rugby Club with his identical twin brother Stuart, for more than 10 years.
He was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
Current chairman of Rossendale RFC, Mick Ingham, said: “It’s very sad to hear about this terrible accident.
“Both Andrew and Stuart played for the club for many years when they were in their 20s and 30s.
“He was a tough and enthusiastic prop forward and was always a bundle of fun and energy.
“I believe he worked away a lot as a building contractor. Last time I saw him he said he’d been working in London.
Mr Ormerod’s twin, Stuart, died in December 2010.
An inquest was opened into the death of Mr Ormerod was opened by East Lancashire coroner Richard Taylor at Burnley yesterday.
It was adjourned for further enquiries to take place.
