Rain can’t dampen Bacup and Stacksteads Carniva lspirit

RAIN failed to stop play as the 59th Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival treated crowds to a great day of colour and entertainment on Sunday.

Despite Friday night’s heavy flooding, organisers held a Saturday afternoon inspection of Moorlands Park and gave the assorted stalls and fun fair rides the go-ahead.

Rossendale Hospice benefitted to the tune of £150 through collections which were held on the day.

Fund-raising manager Sam Morris said: “We did have a few showers but I was surprised by just how many people came out to support the event considering the weather.”

A walking procession from St Saviour’s Community Primary School was picked by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Amanda Robertson, as the best in show.

Chairman of Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival Organisation David Morris thanked all those involved.

He said: “I think despite the obstacles put in our way over the stalls and their location because of the weather, we received positive feedback and the parade was excellent.”

Congratulations to everyone, both organizers of the Carnival & those members of the general public who supported it. After all the negative comments made about Bacup & surrounding areas in the past it is heartening to know that we have so many people willing to give up their time &/or money for the benefit of their community. Here's looking forward to next year when, hopefully, the weather will be a little kinder.
