‘Signs of the times’ to help Rossendale tourism

ROSSENDALE is to get a host of new road signs in a bid to boost tourism in the Valley.

The new scheme is due to be rubber-stamped by the council’s cabinet tomorrow night.

It is hoped the signs will make it easier for motorists to find attractions such as Rossendale Museum, Lee Quarry Mountain Bike Centre and Ski Rossendale.

Bacup, Whitworth, Rawtenstall, Haslingden, Crawshawbooth and Edenfield will benefit from the 28 signs.

Directional signs including Todmorden, Rochdale and Burnley will also be installed.

The project, which has been agreed by Lancashire County Council, will see 17 damaged and outdated signs replaced alongside 11 new ones.

A contract for the work has been drawn up and once the signs are made the scheme is due to start in October.

The Highways Agency, which is responsible for the M66 and A56, has also been approached with a view to improving signs.
