TWO men who subjected a woman to a ‘serious sexual assault’ after a night out are being hunted by police.

Officers said the incident happened in a country lane after the 32-year-old got out of a taxi with the pair.

She had met them earlier at a nightclub in Rawtenstall, police said.

Officers said the woman was attacked off Old Lane, in Britannia, near Bacup, early on Sunday morning.

Detectives are also keen to trace the taxi driver who collected the woman, and three men, from Vogue nightclub, in Bacup Road, Rawtenstall, and took them towards Shawforth.

One of the men left the vehicle at an address in Bacup before the car dropped off the remaining passengers at the junction of Market Street and Rochdale Road.

The woman met the men outside the nightclub and the incident is believed to have taken place between 3.30am and 5.20am.

Detective Inspector Marie Haworth, of Pennine CID, said: “We are doing everything we can to trace the people responsible for this attack and I would urge anyone with any information at all, that they think could help, to contact police as soon as possible.

“In particular, we are very keen to speak to the taxi driver who transported the group from outside Vogue nightclub back to Shawforth.

“So, if you are that taxi driver, or you know who that driver was, then please get in touch with us, as you could have information that is crucial.”
