TWO lecturers have joined record breaking ‘roll of honour’ as the world’s fastest wallpaperers.

Phil Burgess and Simon Whitaker, from Accrington and Rossendale College, gave the competition a real ‘pasting’ in a challenge at a trade show.

They smashed the record for the fastest team of two to hang three strips of wallpaper.

The winning time of 1 minute 16.435 seconds was successfully set at the National Painting and Decorating show in Coventry in November but has now received the official stamp of approval from Guinness World Records.

Phil Burgess said: “To become world record breakers is something that has never really crossed our minds.

“But we are overjoyed that our record has been confirmed.

“The certificate recognises not only the speed in which we completed the challenge.

“It also recognises the high quality of the finish so it will certainly take pride of place at the college for all to see.”

Beverley Whitehead is marketing manager at Dulux Decorator Cent-res who organised the challenge, with wallpaper manufacturer Graham and Brown.

She said: “We would like to thank all the people on the stand at the show who helped to not only make this new record possible but also highlight the exceptional skills on hand within the college.” The speedy duo were presented with the official world record certificate.

And they also received bottles of champagne in front of 16 students and four fellow lecturers at an awards ceremony which was held held at the Graham and Brown offices in Blackburn.
