Woman killed in Rossendale accident

A WOMAN has died after her car crashed into a wall in Rawtenstall.

The woman in her mid-20’s was driving down Lord Street towards Bury Road when she lost control and veered down an embankment, police said.

Her car then hit the wall, which is close to the New Hall Hey Business Park.

Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly after 5.10pm today.

The driver, who has not yet be named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her passenger, a 21-year-old woman, was also cut out of the car by fire fighters and taken to Fairfield General Hospital.

Her condition tonight was described as ‘serious’.

Officers closed off the road while investigations into the cause of the crash were launched.

horrible accident. It was on the bypass traveling towards Rawtenstall. The driver seems to have failed to see the new roundabout that has caught so many others out already but unfortunately she has paid for it with her life, so sad. The fog was very bad today which could well have been a factor

A true tragedy. She was a much loved daughter, mother & sister. May she rest in peace and may her family and children have the strength to overcome this difficult time.

Such a tragedy, just a shame that the LT cannot report it correctly! Lord St is no where near the bypass.
