FOUR men who plotted an armed robbery in Haslingden have been jailed for over 40 years.

The men were sentenced at Manchester Crown Court yesterday for plotting to raid a cash delivery van outside the town’s Co-op store, in Manchester Road, on September 25 last year.

They were arrested as they lay in wait for the G4S van following an investigation involving Greater Manchester Police’s surveillance unit, robbery unit, firearms unit and force intelligence branch.

Detective Sergeant Chris Mossop, from the robbery unit, said: “The men were preparing what would no doubt have been a violent and terrifying robbery.

“The fact we were able to stop them and present such compelling evidence against them is testament to all the hard work done before, during and after this incident by all those involved.”

Jonathon Walsh, 22, of Dodbrook Close, Newton Heath, Richard Walsh, 26, of Heron Street, Oldham, William Moore, 28, of Phoebe Street, Ordsall and Gavin Noakes, 30, of National Drive, Ordsall, all admitted cons-piracy to rob.
