A YOUNG man from Bacup found dead in the bath could have collapsed after failing to take anti-epilepsy medication, an inquest heard.
Andrew Robert Harding, 24, was found dead in the bathroom of his girlfriend’s home in the town’s Bramling Drive, Burnley Coroner’s Court was told.
Mr Harding, of Daisy Bank, had suffered grand mal seizures since the age of 11, when he was first diagnosed with epilepsy, the inquest heard.
In a statement from his mother Pauline Harding, it was said that he attended a wedding the night before his death and decided to stay at his girlfriend’s before making his way home.
The inquest heard that he had made a similar decision, when he was slightly younger, when going out with friends, and had taken his medication later.
Consultant pathologist Dr Zuhir Twajj said there was only a low dosage of anti-epilepsy drugs in the deceased’s system, when a post-mortem examination was later conducted on Mr Harding.
Further tests could not provide a clear cause of death but given the clinical history of Mr Harding the doctor said he was satisfied a serious fit could have led to his demise.
Recording a verdict of death by natural causes, East Lancashire coroner Richard Taylor said he accepted that Mr Harding may not have taken his medication and suffered a significant fit.
