A TROUBLED business site in Rawtenstall, which was once on the verge being mothballed, has secured its first occupant.

Less than a month after Rossendale council leader Tony Swain claimed traders would move into New Hall Hey, a computer firm has signed up to a 10-year contract.

Specialist computing firm Global Technologies has now struck a deal with developers Hurstwood after outgrowing its offices in Haslingden.

Council bosses have hailed the news as a sign of an economic U-turn.

Steve Jackson, head of regeneration, said: “This is excellent news for Rossendale and hopefully a sign that the economy is beginning to pick up.

“Rossendale is a great place for businesses and the council is doing all it can to support new and growing businesses in the borough and to attract new businesses.”

The firm designs and manufactures industrial computers for high-profile organisations such as Severn Trent Water and Dyno Rod drainage.

Business-to-business computer services as well as specialist website marketing are also provided.

It is estimated 35 jobs for local people will be created during the next 12 months as the firm moves in.

Global Technologies owner Chris Turner, said: “We were previously based at the industrial park in Haslingden but we’ve seen our business quadruple in size so we needed more space to take on new staff.

“Hurstwood have been superb.

"They helped the transition run as smoothly as possible and have given us a great deal of support from day one.”
