Rossendale and Darwen MP urges support for new writers

Rossendale and Darwen MP Janet Anderson has launched an Early Day Motion in the Commons urging support for new writing talent.

Mrs Anderson, a member of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, said it was vital that new writers were supported and developed so that audiences got an interesting and diverse range of work.

The motion states that new writing should be at the heart of all subsidised theatres in the UK and the development of writing talent should not fall off the agenda of Arts Council offices or other funding bodies such as local authorities and theatres.

Mrs Anderson wants the Government to ensure that new writing is supported adequately and remains a key component of the cultural programme both nationally and locally.

Is this really the most important thing for her to be doing with her time.

What a total waste of time and space she is.

Let's have a General Election now!

Silly comments by pull some strings. Music, books, film, theatre, media, etc etc; earn this country £millions and employs hundreds of thousands of people. It is absolutely right to encourage writing talent.

All around the country and particularly are dozens of writers groups. They are funded entirely by members subs.Apart from a measly, hard fought for grant now and then, do they get a penny, do they h**l. If Mrs. Anderson wants help find new writing talent, then this is the place to start.

It's a shame 'hasslem' does not use punctuation in this comment. Did he / she actually go to school ?

I do hope you have gone to the police about our MP's claims ? If they are fraudulent then they will prosecute. Please let me know the outcome of your complaint.

No they won't - there has been an announcement that there will be virtually no investigations into mps expenses....one rule for us, one rule for them.

I must confess I only went to a Comprehensive school and did not have the benefit of an exclusive education at an establishment such as QEGS.

However, please ennlighten me, oh great one, on the error of my ways.

The secret
garden

As daffodils and blue bells.
Quietly play together.
I can hear the whispers.
From the roaming wild heather.
Bright crimson roses start to smile.
The old apple orchard still sleeps
a while.
A self seeding poppy.
So tiny and proud.
Sits quietly on his own away from the crowd.
The creeping ivy she sneaks about.
She likes to be seen.
But never shouts.
The little violas sigh dont forget us.
As giant sun flowers reply.
Stop makeing such fuss.
Whispering willows sit.
Just whispering together.
Turning away their heads.
From the sun kissed weather.
A beautiful clematis.
Is starting to climb her tower.
As the summer moves nearer.
She shelters from a last spring shower.
The pretentious petunias.
Bloom in all their glory.
When the seasons bough their heads.
To listen to mother natures greatest story.

It's wonderful that Writers, musicians etc bring revenue to the country.

Pity it can't be said for people involved in manufacturing who are losing their jobs day after day. Perhaps Mrs Anderson should be seeking an 'early day motion' about Labour's colusion to close all our motor industry, in fact every one our industries down!!!

She is a symbol of 'tokenism,' to busy filling out her expenses claims.

GENERAL ELECTION NOW!

Lancashire Police have made no such announcement. Anyway, the police are investigating several MP's & a few Lords too.

So, pull some strings.....every Govt in Europe should call an election now ? Have you compared Britain's unemployment rate with the rest of Europe ? Isn't manufacturing struggling in all European countries ? Have you compared the downturn in the UK to say Germany, Italy, Spain, US. Japan, Ireland, etc etc ??
General Election in EVERY Western Country NOW !?

So have you compared the Euro to Sterling exchange rate which is a measure of environmental competence.

Have you checked your beloved leader who claims he

Has saved the World

0% growth is positive

Does not even know the words to Old McDonald.

If you are as close to Janet Anderson as you seem to suggest from your postings....then plaese share with us Janet's views on Gordon Brown.

How on earth is the Euro to Sterling exchange rate a measure of ''environmental competence'' ???
What is the £ to $ rate. About ideal you say !
Unfortunately you are only concerned about the proficiency of Leaders and not overall policy.

2:38am Wed 8 Jul 09

In fact , Hasslem may have stumbled upon something !! Let's not bother with political parties or ministers or policies ! Let's just have a Leader - as obviously that's the only thing that's important ! We could all just elect 'a Leader' every 5 years and do away with the rest of em !
Kim Jong Il (or whatever he is called) of N. Korea is no doubt your model ! A strong leader, loved by his population, well educated, smartly turned out !
Then insteasd of moaning about political parties you could just moan about the Leader !
Brown (moan), Blair (moan), Major (moan), Thatcher (moan), Callaghan (moan). Heath (moan) Was Wilson OK ??? Maybe not. The last Leader you thought was good was probably Gladstone !!

hasslem hasslem, lower cumberworth says...
8:04am Wed 8 Jul 09

So, the leader of the Party is irrelevant then is it?

Gordon Brown is having no impact upon the country as leader. By your logic we could get rid of the Queen, get rid of Obama, get rid of Saddam Hussein (sorry we did), get rid of the Head of the Army, Tesco could get rid of Terry Leahey, Rovers could get rid of Sam Allardyce, England could get rid of Capello.

Seems as though leaders are pointless and have no impact on the organisation. Try having an orchestra without a conductor.

Did Guardian not have a constant moan about Thatcher from 1979 onwards?...i think we know the answer.Did he/she ever go on a march and chant Maggie Maggie Maggie...out out out!

So do you, Guardian, think that the leader is doing a great job. And does Janet think he is doing a great job. All in the Labour garden is rosy.

For what it's worth, I thought Blair was a great leader with one massive exception. That exception, i believe, invalidates everything good that he did.

Come on Guardian, what do you think of Gordon. My guess is that because he is so incompetent in PMQs that you think we shoulld we should get rid of it.

When did Gord last go out and meet the electorate in a non hermetically sealed environment?

amazed, Darwen says...
6:44pm Mon 13 Jul 09

What a laugh. By the way "Guardian" you have also slipped up in your typing (Message 8th July) so watch what you are saying about comp. school education. What amuses me about all this is the question: when a writer is identified will Janet want to be their agent and get the royalties? She may need a job after the next election!!
