A KEY Commons vote on the Brexit process last night split East Lancashire’s MPs down party lines.

Labour’s Kate Hollern (Blackburn), Julie Cooper (Burnley) and Graham Jones (Hyndburn) voted to support a House of Lords Amendment giving MPs a final say on any deal to leave the European Union.

Ribble Valley Tory Nigel Evans, and his Rossendale and Darwen colleague Jake Berry backed Prime Minister Theresa May’s successful bid to vote down the amendment by 319 to 303.

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson acted as a ‘teller’ for the government verifying the vote.

Mrs Hollern: “I supported the amendment as I believe that it is vital Parliament does not give Theresa May a blank cheque to decide our nation’s future.I will not stand by and see the future of East Lancashire’s economy sold up the river by a PM whose main interest is in pacifying her own MPs.”

Mr Evans said: “East Lancashire’s Labour MPs have shown their true colours in voting to weaken the UK’s negotiating position. These MPs all voted against the democratic choice of their constituencies, their county and their country."
