A SERIES of early morning breakfast revision sessions at a school is believed to have given the students the best chance to achieve their GCSE goals.

From Tuesday to Thursday over a 10 week period Fearns Community Sports College, in Bacup, held 8am ‘Breakfast Blast’ sessions, with the highest attendance being 90 per cent.

All of the Year 11 pupils were given the chance to boost their knowledge in advance of the new-style GCSEs ,with staff even collecting pupils in their own cars if transport was an issue.

Head boy Taite Johnston and head girl Hayley Clayton, both 16, said the extra help staff provided really helped them to prepare for the exams.

Taite, who wants to study at Burnley College, said: “No matter when it was, no matter what day it was or what arrangements they had to make for their own children, the teachers and staff came in to run Breakfast Blast.”

At 8am before every morning exam the school also held a revision session to make sure the pupils were as prepared as possible before entering the exam room.

Hayley, who is also planning to study at the Princess Way college, said: “It has helped me a lot to come in on the morning before an exam and sometimes what I had just revised that morning came up in the exam.”
