A DRUNKEN passenger who wanted to stay on the bus after it had reached the end of the line found himself sleeping it off in a police cell.
Blackburn magistrates heard homeless Callum Hamilton was kept in custody for 60 hours before his appearance in court.
Hamilton, 19, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Manchester Road, Haslingden. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge.
Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said police were called by a bus driver who had reached the last stop and reported a drunken male who wouldn't leave the vehicle.
"When the police arrived he appeared to be asleep," said Miss Akhtar. "He was woken and became abusive and was arrested."
Ian Huggan, defending, said his client accepted he hadn't been particularly welcoming to the officers who woke him up.
"He was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning and has 60 hours in the police cells to think about his behaviour," said Mr Huggan.
