THE M66 southbound is closed after a 16-car crash on the motorway.
Motorists are being warned to avoid the motorway at the Ramsbottom and Bury junction.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said it is on the scene and urged people to avoid the area.
Traffic is going to be held up whilst emergency services are at the scene and there are already substantial queues.

It has been reported one of the vehicles involved has crossed the central reservation.
