A TAXI driver has appeared in court accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
Burnley Crown Court heard how 53-year-old Nasir Ahmed allegedly committed the offence against the teenage girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in Haslingden on January 13.
Ahmed, of Blackburn Road, Haslingden, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and ethnicity. and to enter his not guilty plea.
The case was adjourned until May 2 when Ahmed will stand trial at Preston Crown Court.
Ahmed was released on conditional bail, not to contact his alleged victim or prosecution witnesses.
Judge Simon Medland QC said: “This matter is now listed for trial at the crown court in Preston on Wednesday, May 2. You must attend on that occasion. If you don’t that itself is a serious criminal offence and you run the risk of the trial proceeding in your absence. “
