A MAN suffered a fractured skull after he was attacked with a meat cleaver, police said.
Officers were called at 8am to Cross Street North in Haslingden, yesterday, after a 28-year-old man was attacked.
Police said the man suffered a fractured skull and cuts to his head, arm and finger.
An eyewitness said a cordon was put in place in the road and police cars and an ambulance were at the scene.
A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said they took a man in his late 20s to Royal Preston Hospital.
A police spokesman said a 36-year-old man from Rawtenstall has been arrested for criminal damage to a vehicle and assault and a 29-year-old woman has been arrested for assisting an offender.
He said: "We are interested in speaking to the driver of a white vehicle which was seen in the area at the time and anybody else who may have witnessed the incident.
"Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log number 253 of November 21."
