THREE people were taken to hospital following a crash in Belthorn. 

A 50-year-old woman had to be cut from a blue Citroen Picasso after it collided with a blue Renault Clio in Grane Road at about 9.55am on Sunday. 

The woman from Leyland was cut out of the car and released by firefighters.

A seven-year-old girl from Leyland was also taken to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital with bruising and has since been discharged. Both of them had been passengers in the Picasso.

The driver of the Clio, a 20-year-old man from Barnoldswick, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with a suspected spinal injury but has also now been discharged.

Anyone with information was asked to contact police on 101.

A police spokesperson said: “The driver of the Renault was a 20-year-old man who suffered a suspected spinal injury.

“One of the passengers was a 50-year-old woman who suffered a spinal injury.

"The seven-year-old child suffered bruising."

The crash came after wet, windy and foggy weather hit East Lancashire over the weekend.
