A MAN and a woman have appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged in connection with theft of gold bracelets from a Rawtenstall jewellers.

The court heard a female BT employee was robbed of an Open Reach van and a BMW was damaged when it was rammed as it tried to block the van in.

Jason Rae, 47, of Pevensey Court, Manchester, was sent in custody to Burnley Crown Court charged with theft of 12 gold bracelets worth £769 from Michael Anthony Jewellers, robbing Amanda Cumpsey of a BT Open Reach van, criminal damage to a BMW belonging to Matthew Tighe, failing to stop after a road accident in Grange Crescent, assaulting a police officer with intent to resist arrest, driving without insurance and other than in accordance with a licence on Monday.

Claire Shirley, 42, of the same address, was sent on bail to the crown court charged with theft of the gold bracelets. They will both appear at the crown court on June 8.
