TWO Rossendale parents who lost their second child during pregnancy are holding a fundraising ball for their charity which provides support for newly bereaved parents.

Rachael Chadwick, 20, is holding “The Great Gatsby Charity Ball” to help raise money for her charity “Primrose’s Wings” which makes memory boxes for families who have given birth to stillborn babies.

The organiser and her partner Joseph Shearns, 23, a fabricator at Alufold Direct in Haslingden, suffered the heartbreak of finding out their unborn baby “Primrose” suffered from several illnesses and was stillborn 20 weeks into pregnancy on March 14, 2015.

The couple, who have two sons, Jacob, two, and seven-week-old Theadore Beau, wanted to do more in Primrose’s name and set up the organisation.

With more than 90 volunteers, the charity send out keepsake boxes for families and create baby funeral gown packs.

Miss Chadwick said Primrose suffered from severe kidney issues, organs protruding into her umbilical cord and Spina Bifida and was never going to survive.

She said: “When you lose a baby, you are hit with a hard feeling that they’re going to be forgotten so after she was born we decided to do something special in her memory so people would always remember her.

“We started fundraising for a cuddle cot and a crib in April 2015.

“A cuddle cot is a cold mattress which really reduces the rate of which a stillborn baby’s body deteriorates.

“We successfully handed over the cuddle cot and bespoke premature baby-size crib to Burnley Hospital.

“It was whilst we were fundraising for the crib that we realised how many other families were in a similar situation, because on average there are 17 babies stillborn every day in the UK alone so those numbers really add up.

“We knew that we wanted to do more in Primrose’s name and to us that meant helping as many of these families as we possibly could, so we set up our own organisation.

“So far we have sent out nearly 200 boxes and almost 300 funeral gown packs.

“We have even sent items to Australia and the US, but we can’t do this on our own and rely solely on help from the public.”

The Great Gatsby Charity Ball will take place on Friday, June 3, at 7pm at the Best Western Mytton Fold Hotel & Golf Complex in Langho.
