AS LEISURE attractions go, Rossendale’s latest is off the scale!

Grip and Go opens today at Haslingden Sports Centre, featuring 18 different climbing walls that will challenge and entertain all ages and abilities.

Earlier this week Year 3 pupils from Helmshore Primary School were invited down to try out the £275,000 facility.

Grip and Go features themed climbing activities, from aerial stepping stones to a ‘Leap of Faith’.

Ken Masser of Rossendale Leisure Trust said: “We wanted to create something that was fresh and exciting, and we’re absolutely convinced it’s going to be a huge hit with the people of Rossendale and beyond.

“The real beauty of Grip and Go is its widespread appeal. It’s ideal for people who have never climbed before or for those who are looking to improve their skills.”

Local ward councillor Cllr Peter Evans said: “I think this will be a big help to Haslingden and could prove to be very popular with young people and adults.

“Climbing is a growing sport and this is a fairly unique idea. There aren’t many climbing walls about, so it could attract people from far and wide."

Phoenix Nights funnyman Ted Robbins will officially launch the new facility at 2pm today, with other activities such as laser tag, roller skating, soft play sessions and a bouncy castle also available.
