INDIE music darlings The Wonder Stuff will be rocking Acre Bottom in September after they were confirmed as headliners for this year’s Ramsbottom Festival.

The Midlands musicians, who famously teamed up with comedian Vic Reeves for 1991 No.1 ‘Dizzy’, top the bill on Friday, September 18.

Miles Hunt and his mates join Wirral band The Sundowners and punk pretenders Houdini Dax in getting the party started at the popular three-day arts gathering, which is celebrating its fifth birthday.

Miles tweeted: “The Wonder Stuff will be headlining Ramsbottom Festival on September 18. Nice, eh?”

Other acts on the Friday night include Louis Barabbas and the Bedlam Six – who market themselves as Manchester’s foremost ‘lyric-driven dirt swing band’ – electro-popsters The Narrows and local lads The Jade Assembly.

Festival organisers tweeted: “We’re ‘dizzy’ with excitement @thewonder_stuff headline Friday night at Rammy! #rammy15.”

There are also two new names in the Saturday’s line-up, with Brighton’s The Go! Team and John Bramwell, lead singer of Manchester band I am Kloot, who will play a solo set featuring plenty of his band’s best-known hits. They support Scottish alt-rockers Idlewild, with the bill also showcasing the talents of BBC Radio 6 Music’s Tom Robinson’s Irish folk/blues troubadour band and Manchester indie/electro group The Slow Readers Club.

Sunday sees the curtain brought down by ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’ stars The Proclaimers. Scottish twin brothers Craig and Charlie Reid will also be belting out some new tracks from their latest opus, Let’s Hear It For The Dogs, which was released in April.

Further highlights on the Sunday are pirate-folk seven-piece Galleon Blast, who are fronted by Bolton-born BBC DJ Mark Radcliffe, fellow folkies Moulettes and heavy ska floor-fillers Baked A La Ska.

Crowds flocking to the cricket ground site will also be able to enjoy performing arts and crafts, as well as street food stalls and local real ale and cider.
