A HASLINGDEN primary school is among the best in the country.

Broadway Primary School has been given the best rating possible by Ofsted, the government’s education watchdog.

Following an inspection last month, the school was praised for outstanding leadership, teaching and curriculum.

The school — which was rated good after its previous inspection — was graded outstanding for its early-years provision, the achievement of pupils and their behaviour and safety.

Lead inspector Pamela Davenport said: “Outstanding leadership has moved this school forward significantly since its last inspection, so that teaching and achievement have improved. The attainment of all groups of pupils has risen and is now well above average.

“Pupils make rapid and sustained progress from their starting points.

“The relentless determination of the staff team to meet the needs of every pupil ensures that rapid progress throughout the school is maintained and all are prepared well for their move to secondary school.

“Parents speak highly of the school and agree that it is well led and managed. All those who responded to the parent-view questionnaire would rightly recommend the school to others.

“Pupils feel very safe at school. And standards of behaviour in all lessons, in the dining hall and on the playground are exemplary.”

Headteacher Paul Stanley said: “A lot of hard work has gone into the school and it is wonderful that we have been rated outstanding. The staff here are fantastic. We all want the best for the children.

“We have worked hard to improve the school and I’m really pleased with the result.

“We have had a great reaction from parents who have sent loads of congratulatory e-mails and cards to us.

“Everybody here strives to provide the best education for our pupils.”

Inspectors observed teaching in all classes and carried out joint observations with the headteacher.

Discussions were also held with the governing body, senior leaders and managers responsible for leading specific subjections.

Inspectors also examined the school’s documentation and read 67 responses by parents via the Parent View online questionnaire.
