A police spokesman said: “At around 9.30pm on Sunday, a man entered Mr C’s Petrol Station. He had a knife and demanded the cashier hand over money. He got away with around £130. Investigations continue. CCTV is being checked and crime-scene investigators have been at the scene.”

The cashier was not working at the Texaco garage yesterday afternoon. But a manager said staff were in contact with police regarding the incident.

Greenfield ward councillor Granville Morris said: “Nobody likes any kind of violence happening anywhere. I would like to see appropriate punishments befitting this kind of situation. It is not acceptable.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“It was not a quiet time of night. There might have been somebody nearby, maybe in a public house, and I hope somebody who saw something will come forward and help police apprehend the person as quickly as possible. If the offender was prepared to do that on this occasion they could do it again. I hope this is not part of a pattern.

“My concerns relate to how it has impacted on the staff. It will have been a shock, it will have been upsetting. I hope they get the counselling that they need. It is worrying that somebody is prepared to steal something in a way that threatens somebody’s life. I am very concerned about it.”

Witnesses should call police on 101, quoting log number 220 of December 14.
