MORE than 20 artists will open the doors of their studios and homes this weekend to give people a chance to view their work as part of the Rossendale Art Trail.

The free event, formerly known as Reveal, is returning for its sixth year on Saturday and Sunday and will take place at a variety of venues across Haslingden, Rawtenstall, Waterfoot to Whitworth.

Old mill buildings that house groups of artists, a spectacular Gothic church, a terraced-house studio, The Whitaker, Rossendale’s museum and art gallery in Rawtenstall, and The Boo Theatre in Waterfoot will all feature on the trail.

The artists involved in the project are mainly from Waterfoot’s Prospect Studio, Globe Arts Studios and Valley Artists, and the displays feature the works of Dave Pearson, Jefferson Conway and Geoff Butterworth.

Organiser Bob Frith, joint artistic director of The Boo, said: “The Art Trail is a great opportunity for people to support and enjoy the artistic talent we have here in the Valley.

“It’s large enough to include a wide range of artists but small enough for you to explore every single one over the course of the weekend if you wish.”

Alison Duddle, joint artistic director of The Boo, added: “We at The Boo are taking part on Sunday.

“We’ll be showing people round the parts of the theatre that are normally closed to the public, such as the workshop and puppet store.

“Visitors will be able to see the puppets we’ve been working on for our new show Hansel and Gretel, and also view the plans for the exciting changes we’ll be making to the building next year.”

The event runs from 11am to 5pm on both days, and The Boo is open during same hours on Sunday.
