A HASLINGDEN firm has been named Bed Manufacturer of the Year at the National Bed Federation exhibition.
Burgess Beds, based at Knowsley Road Industrial Estate, in Knowsley Park Way, is owned by Andy and Rose Jackson.
The family business, which was formed in 1927, also employs their two children and a grandchild, where the firm was located until it moved to Rossendale seven years ago.
Since then the company, which specialises in handmade, bespoke beds, has more than doubled its turnover.
The award was presented to sales director Jodi Schofield by broadcaster Gyles Brandreth in a ceremony at the 2013 exhibition.
The event, held in Telford, is acknowledged as the most prestigious industry event of the year.
Burgess Beds was picked as the winner by an independent panel of judges consisting of editors from the industry’s trade journals including George Cooper from Cabinet Maker, Richard De Melim from Furnishing Report, Paul Farley from Furniture News, Andrew Kidd from Interiors Monthly and Jonny Westbrooke, the clerk of trade body Furniture Makers.
The judges praised Burgess Beds for ‘making great inroads internationally through its growing export business, building on its environmental policy and for improving’.
