A FITNESS centre run by two brothers from Waterfoot has been chosen to spearhead a campaign by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

Lean Bootcamp, run by Jonny and Paul Stannard, has been chosen as the Lancashire ambassador for Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution campaign.

They have been tasked with promoting healthy eating and exercise in the run-up to Food Revolution Day on May 17.

The campaign, which is active in 62 countries worldwide, aims to educate children and parents on cookery, nutrition and dieting.

The Stannard brothers hold workouts in Rakefoot Methodist Church in Crawshawbooth, the Top Club in Loveclough, and their old school, Fearns Community Sports College in Stacksteads. They started their fitness camps in a Waterfoot field three years ago.

Jonny, 30, said: “It’s really exciting to be associated with the Jamie Oliver stuff, we can’t wait to get our ideas out there.

“I think we were chosen because we have really good contacts in the area, and we’ll be working closely with them in before May 17 to spread the word about the importance of nutrition in our daily lives.

“It’s a bit of a transformation for us because we were raised in the pub industry and now we’re obsessed with health and fitness.”

The pair hope to host a series of cookery workshops in venues throughout the Valley, and have already got their foot in the door with some businesses.

Jonny said: “In the last month we’ve had a healthy eating menu available in Do Dah's Cafe in Bank Street and we also produced a booklet of healthy recipes that’s available at Riley’s Butchers in Crawshawbooth.

“We’re looking for a permanent hub in Rossendale and hopefully getting into primary schools as well.”

Food Revolution Day is a joint effort between Mr Oliver’s charities in the UK, Australia and the USA, which aims to promote food education through community events and dinner parties.

The inaugural event last year saw more than 1,000 events take place in 664 cities.
