A JUNIOR football club is appealing for support as it bids to replace a run-down pavilion.

As part of its drive to raise £40,000 towards funding for new changing rooms, Ribchester Junior Football Club is battling for first place in The Norwich Union Community Sports Fund.

Competing against other community projects, the one with the most votes stands a chance of winning up to £50,000.

The estimated cost of replacing the pavilion is £160,000, and committee members of the club began a campaign to raise a quarter of this last year.

They hope that the rest will come from charity grants from the likes of Sport England or the National Lottery.

The football pavilion on Ribchester recreation ground is around 80-years-old and, despite recent alterations, is in desperate need of an overhaul.

If the pavilion gets the facelift it desperately needs it will also be available for village groups to use, including the school, Cubs, Brownies, Scouts, Beavers, as well as the football club itself.
