A LANGHO primary school was graded ‘outstanding’ in history by government inspectors.
St Leonard's C of E Primary School, Whalley Road, was graded by Ofsted in a one-day subject inspection of history.
Among other activities Year 3 children were involved in a Victorian day where lessons were taken by Mr Ian Tulley, who played the part of a Victorian School master.
All Year 3 children dressed in Victorian clothes and the day began with a hand inspection.
Children used authentic Victorian resources including slates and dip pens and were taught as in Victorian times.
They learnt about Queen Victoria, the Empire, sums using old money, poetry and handwriting.
Graham Dunn, Director of Education Standards and Inclusion, said: “It was with much pleasure that I read your report and saw how the inspection team acknowledged the exceptional quality of provision in history at St Leonard’s – pupils make outstanding progress in developing their knowledge and understanding.”
