Man spat in face of partner

A 29-year-old man who spat in his partner's face told police she was suffering from post natal depression and nothing had happened.

Hyndburn magistrates heard David Peter Ford had argued with his girlfriend after accusing her of wanting to get back with her ex-husband.

Ford, of Market Place, Longridge, pleaded guilty to assaulting Vikki Adamson. He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months and ordered to pay £100 costs.

Philippa White, prosecuting, said that following the a row, Ford said he would sleep in the spare room.

"She said he didn't need to bother because she was leaving and went upstairs to pack a bag," said Mrs White. "He followed her up and repeatedly spat in her face."

Ford pushed Miss Adamson out of the house and told her she could only come back in if she said she was sorry.

"When the police arrived Ford said he hadn't done anything," said Mrs White. "He said his partner was suffering from post-natal depression and had "gone mental" upstairs."

Mrs White said Ford had two cautions on his record, one for assaulting Miss Adamson's former husband and one for assaulting Miss Adamson in January.
