A SAUSAGE-making supremo from Clitheroe has been commended for the standard of his pork products.

Cliff Cowburn, of Cowman's Famous Sausage Shop, Castle Street, scooped a gold award for pork sausages at the National Supreme Product Championships.

Mr Cowburn, who makes the sausages on-site with help of fellow butchers Nick Gell and Paul Howard, said it was a great boost.

He added: "All the pork we buy is outdoor reared pork and we buy from a local supplier, it's the same with beef and lamb.

The shop's been in the family for 50 years and there has been a butcher's shop here for more than 100."
