Film club sets up cinema in Clitheroe pub

A FILM club in the Ribble Valley is to start showing movies in the back room of a pub.

The Ribble Fun Club, which used to be known as the Ribble Film Club, will use The New Inn, in Parson Lane, Clitheroe, for its twice-monthly screenings.

The club has previously used cinema rooms at The Grand, in York Street, and St Mary's Centre, Church Street, but both venues have closed as cinemas.

Bruce Dowles, secretary of the club, said: “It’s great news for local residents who can now see films on a high quality, large screen, without having to travel long distances.

“The screen we are using at The New Inn is well over six-foot, it is a massive screen, and all the equipment we have bought has been towards the top of the range.”

The club will show films on the first and third Sundays of each month, from 7.30pm, start-ing on February 15.

The choice of the film will be decided by the members at a meeting on the second Monday of every month at The New Inn, from 7.30pm, and Mr Dowles is expecting some lively debates.

“Members have the choice of what to watch,” he said, “it will go down to a vote and we want everybody involved.

“I am sure people will enjoy debating the merits of their preferred film.”

Mr Dowles said the club had not had to do much work on the room to get it up to standard.

He said: “We have just had to erect the screen and make sure our projector and all the equipment is up and sto-red safely.

“It looks like there will be room for around 35 people at every screening.

"People should be comfortable and able to see the screen and any subtitles and, of course, they’ll be able to get a beer.”

Admission is free, but you must be member, at a cost of £5 for the year, or £1 a night. For information call David Herman on 01200 424444.
