THE family of the victim of a head-on car crash have paid tribute to a "devoted family man."

Leonard Miller, 59, died after his blue Ford Mondeo hit another on the A59 Longsight Road near the Ribchester turn-off at Clayton-le-Dale at 5.10pm on Saturday, March 12.

A statement released by police on behalf of his wife of 40 years Janet, of Thornton Cleveleys, 23-year-old daughter Shona and brother Keith said: "We are still in a state of shock and are still trying to come to terms with this tragic accident.

"The only comfort the family can take from this tragic accident is that Len died in the company of his longstanding wife and his beloved dog, Pom Pom, who had been his constant companion for many years."

Police said Mrs Miller was in Royal Preston hospital recovering from her injuries, but was expected to be discharged within the next few days.

Police believe the car was heading towards Preston when it veered across the carriageway.

He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with leg, abdomen and head injuries but suffered a cardiac arrest and died soon after arriving.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to call 0845 1 25 35 45.
