WHALLEY student Francesca Wheatley carried the Olympic torch through Croston has it made its way towards Chorley this morning.

Francesca was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of 14 and endured extensive treatment, including seven weeks of daily radiotherapy, for the condition.

Despite the ordeal, she went on to achieve top exam results – even sitting some of the exams while attached to a drip in hospital.

She was nominated as a torchbearer as recognition of her bravery and determination in the face of the illness.

I was there in Chorley, with the wife and kids, cheering on the torch. Amazing atmosphere, thoroughly recommended.

Didn't realise some of the torch bearers were proper heroes either. Makes it even better.

Roll on the Jubilee, then the Euros, then the Olympics. Happy days!
