A ROOFER has been charged with multiple counts of misleading, unfair, untruthful and aggressive trading and false advertising.
Simon Anthony Fielding, 51, of Whalley Banks, Whalley, faces a total of 10 counts relating to a number of jobs he carried out across East Lancashire last year.
Fielding — formerly of Sunderland Street, Burnley — runs the business Ribble Valley Roofing which was advertised in the Yellow Pages in February, June and September with a Confederation of Roofing Contractors (CRC) logo.
The CRC is the country’s main roofing trade association and was set up in 1985 to protect the public from unscrupulous contractors.
The alleged offences happened in Sabden, Clitheroe and Great Harwood.
Three of the charges allege he was not a member of the CRC and that he engaged in false advertising.
Further charges relate to roofing work in Great Harwood and Clitheroe.
Other charges include failing to comply with the requirements of the Companies Act and between September 30 and October 1, engaging in aggressive commercial practice.
To falsely claim membership of the CRC is a criminal offence for fraudulent trading.
It can result in a heavy fine, or even imprisonment.
He was bailed until March.
