CUBS from Whalley spent one night in their own ‘cardboard city’ to help raise money for homeless people in Blackburn.

The children were inspired to find out for themselves what being homeless is like as they stayed at Whalley Village Hall for a sponsored sleepover.

Beth Turner, one of the organisers, was impressed by the efforts of the young people for the shelter NightSafe.

She said: “They were very aware of how important the cause is and they were very enthusiastic to learning about homelessness.

“They are quite used to helping people and it was good that Jan from NightSafe came to talk to them.

“They had been learning about homelessness last year and the charity was from Blackburn so they learned about how money can help people locally rather than in London or elsewhere.”

An enormous pile of cardboard was quickly used to build an impressive set of shelters.

The pack managed to raise £260 with more sponsor money to come in, to go along side £1,000 raised by Explorer Scouts for a similar event in January.
