A HISTORY talk on the English Civil War will be held in a village this month.

Historian Briain Jeffery will lead an illustrated talk which tells the story of the English Civil War battles of Read Bridge and Whalley from April 19 to April 20, 1643.

The talk will include 78 hand-drawn maps, diagrams and photographs to visually showcase the story of the historical conflict.

The session will also cover history of other parts of East Lancashire, including the formation of Blackburnshire Forests, created by Edward the Confessor, and the impact of the Normans on Pendle Forest booths and cattle farms.

It will also uncover the Civil War myths of military dress and the reasons it took place.

The talk will be held at the Old Grammar School, on Station Road, Whalley from 7.30pm on Thursday, February 22.

It will cost £3 per ticket, which includes refreshments.
