A TOWN centre will be closed to traffic for the village’s annual festive extravaganza.

Motorists have been told to steer clear of King Street in Whalley on December 7 from 5.30pm to 9pm, which will close between Station Road and Accrington Road for the village’s Pickwick Night.

Traffic from Clitheroe will be diverted up Wiswell Lane, along the A671 and down Accrington Road.

Traffic from Billington will be diverted up Accrington Road, along the A671 and down Wiswell Lane.

Vehicles requiring access to Church Lane will be diverted via Station Road, Broad Lane and The Sands.

There will be a marshalled pedestrian crossing between the Swan car park and Whalley Arms car park in Accrington Road to facilitate access to Whalley Village Hall’s indoor festive market.

Bus routes through the centre of the village will also be affected.

Whalley Bus Station will be closed from 9am until 10pm to allow the event to be set up and dismantled, during which there will be a temporary bus stop at the bus station exit in King Street.

There will be parking restrictions along Accrington Road and in the road closure area.

A park-and-walk scheme will be available at the Sidings Car Park in Station Road accessible from Clitheroe, Longridge and Wiswell Lane.

This year’s event, now in its 27th year, will include pipe and brass bands, live music, children’s entertainment, street entertainment and over 40 stalls selling a range of festive goods and gifts.
