TWO drivers were injured in a road crash in what police described as a ‘serious road accident’.
At 9.55am today a silver Vauxhall Vectra collided with a blue BMW 116D at the traffic light junction of Accrington Road and Portfield Lane, Whalley
Motorists were asked to avoid the area as traffic backed up as emergency services dealt with the crash.
A rapid response paramedic car and two ambulances were sent the scene.
A fire service spokesman said: “Three fire engines and crews, from Hyndburn, Great Harwood and Padiham, responded to a road traffic collision involving two cars that had resulted in a woman being trapped in one of them.
“Firefighters used hydraulic equipment and hand tools to rescue the casualty, who was taken to hospital by ambulance.”
The 60-year-old woman, who was driving the Vectra, was said to have minor leg injuries while the male driver of the BMW had minor chest injuries.
The road was closed for around two hours for investigations and a clear up to take place.
