MORE than 300 people have signed a petition objecting to a housing application in Sabden.

It comes after more than 70 letters were sent to Ribble Valley Council oppo-sing the plan.

The proposal, which includes 14 houses and three bungalows off Pendle Street East, was submitted by P&D Developments Ltd and is due to be debated by the council’s planning committee in August.

Antony Haworth, chairman of Sabden Parish Council, said: “This application might not be as large as others in the Ribble Valley but, for a small village like Sabden, the plans will impact considerably.

“A development of this nature has the potential to alter the character of this village. The last lot of houses that were built in the village caused enough problems so this will only make things worse.

“If you live in this village you need your own transportation and this means that a lot more cars are going to be clogging up the roads every day.

“It just doesn’t make any sense for this application to be approved and the whole parish council is against it.”

A protest group, Love Sabden, was set up earlier this year to fight proposed housing developments in their village.

A spokesman for the group said: “We are doing all we can to make the council see that this application is not wanted by residents of Sabden.”

“We hope to get more than 500 signatures."
