A WALKER was rescued after falling by the River Ribble in Ribchester yesterday lunchtime.

An air ambulance, land ambulance, and mountain rescue teams were called to help the man, who was flown to hospital suffering from an ankle injury.

A spokesman for the Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue team said: “We were paged by the North West Ambulance Service just before midday, to a casualty who had slipped down a bank next to the River Ribble.

“The casualty was on the border of our area with Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team, who were also called.

“The casualty was treated by paramedics from the air ambulance, and both teams provided the team members to carry him on our stretcher to the helicopter approximately 500m away.”
