A HOST of young talent will be on show at the 21st Ribchester Festival of Music and Art, which gets under way on Thursday.

Among the entertainment will be Royal Academy of Music (RAM) violinist Julia Pusker, who was recently described by a critic as having ‘eye-popping’ virtuosity.

Julia, whose violin is a Maggini, crafted in 1600, and loaned to her by the Royal Academy of Music (RAM), will be accompanied on piano on Friday evening by fellow RAM musician Tadashi Imai. They will perform pieces by Beethoven, Schubert, Debussy and Hubay.

Prof Linda Merrick, principal of the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), will open the festival at 7.15pm, while the opening concert from 7.30pm will feature the Notus Winds quintet from RAM and The Lekker Quintet from the RNCM.

The event runs until Sunday and tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for under-18s.
