PEOPLE in their 80s and 90s who grew up in Mellor are being invited to share their childhood memories of the area.

Mellor Library is collecting stories from people who were children in the village during the 1920s and 30s. The aim is to produce an oral history to add to the library's community history collection.

Emily Hurt, Lancashire County Council's senior librarian at Mellor, said: "Our community history collection includes lots of pamphlets and books written about Mellor by local residents and is very popular with visitors and local schools.

"However, the information tends to cover the physical history of the village, such as the landscape, details of housing and the changing face of local businesses.

"I thought it would be really interesting to collect people's stories as well, and an oral history project seemed to fit the bill perfectly.”
