A POPULAR pub and restaurant has reopened its doors after a £200,000 refurbishment.

The Millstone at Mellor has undergone a transformation of its ground floor, with a new restaurant and bigger bar area.

The Thwaites-owned pub’s improvements include a new lounge and the introduction of a party table for larger groups.

The meeting room has also undergone an upgrade, with new stone flooring and oak doors.

An open fire has also been installed in the pub’s main room and its reception and both sets of toilets have been redecorated.

Tim Parker, general manager, said the new-look had kept hold of its original atmosphere at the Church Lane pub.

He said: “It has been great to see our designs come to life.

“We have had the plans on show in the inn to give our guests an idea about the style, and the feedback has been really positive.

“The new look has managed to add a contemporary feel to the restaurant and bar while retaining the character that people love about The Millstone.”

The pub’s opening night at the weekend after a three-and-a-half week closure, was packed with people trying out its new menu.

Mr Parker said: “The grand re-opening was a complete success, there were lots of people here.

“We were really looking forward to welcoming everyone to The Millstone and seeing the reaction to our new look.

“It’s a really popular pub and it’s important to keep the regulars happy and make sure the pub doesn’t lose its way.

“We think it’s fantastic. It’s brought together the best of The Millstone’s heritage and traditional roots while ensuring it has a fresh and welcoming look and feel.”

A Thwaites spokesman said: “Builders and designers have created some magic for us which has seen a complete transformation of the bar and entrance area.

“We hope everyone will come and visit.”
