A ROAD traffic accident which led to around 305 customers being without power last night also caused homes in Mellor to be without water, energy bosses said.

The accident occurred at around 6.10pm when a car driven by a 21-year-old woman collided with a power line.

Last night Electricity North West had restored power to 169 customers and said it expected that the remaining 136 customers would be back on by midnight.

A police spokesperson said the accident involved a 21-year-old woman who lost control of her vehicle and hit a power line which came down.

He added that she received minor injuries and taken to hospital.

An Electricity North West spokesperson confirmed that the power cut across Mellor and neighbouring Samlesbury was due to damage to overhead power lines as a result of a road traffic accident.

Businesses affected included the Shell garage, The Meadow Italian restaurant and Salmlesbury Hall all on the A59.

A United Utilities spokesperson said they received around 10 calls from residents reporting their water had gone off.

A United Utilities spokesperson said pumps are used to supply water to the Mellor area which are powered by electricity.

When the power went off so did the pumps.

United Utilities managed to get the water back on by 1.30am using a ‘Water on Wheels’ tank as a temporary measure.

Power was restored by around 5am and water supplies returned to normal.
