A RIBBLE Valley church has broken its fund raising target to cover the costs of a major refurbishment project.
The historic 184-year-old church in Mellor was restored after almost four months of refurbishment from May to October last year. Work at St Mary’s Church covered the chancel interior, exterior, vestry, and the boiler house, after the discovery of dry and wet rot.
Members of the 70-strong congregation set themselves a target of £50,000 to cover the costs when the work began.
Amma Sue Williams said: “It has been a most successful appeal and we have all been so impressed at the generous spirit abound in the Mellor community. There are however a number of further repairs that have arisen that we most now turn our minds to.”
Following an Extraordinary Vestry Meeting, Hilda Hilton was elected as churchwarden, Graham Tipper was elected treasurer. Jim Saunders will continue as secretary.
