LANCASHIRE grub is given the thumbs-up in a new TV advert starring Ribble Valley chef Nigel Haworth.

England cricketer Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff sidelines spicy pizza calabrese from Aldo Zilli, Pierre Koffmann’s French classic beef bourguignon, and Atul Kochhar’s chicken korma, in favour of Nigel’s Lancashire Hotpot in the advert for Morrisons supermarket.

The commercial, which was filmed in Camden last September, features the sportsman perusing the new M Kitchen, speaking fluently in Italian, French, and an Indian language, to all the foreign chefs.

But he finally makes a beeline for his favourite dish served up in a sizzling pot by the Northcote Manor chef.

The Michelin-starred cook said: “It was great to be associated with some of the greatest chefs around at the moment and, most importantly, it was fantastic to promote Lancashire food to a larger audience.

“I have a huge passion for local northern food and anything that puts it into the limelight is a good thing – and obviously Freddie also thinks the same as he picked the hotpot in the advert.”

All the dishes featured in the one-minute advert will now be sold in Morrisons stores across the country.

And Nigel is currently preparing more dishes for the supermarket chain, and is also looking forward to starring in another Christmas-themed advert.

He said: “It was great working with Freddie as he is such a natural lad and loads of fun, and the fact the both of us are from Lancashire will hopefully give a boost to the area.

“I want to create more dishes for the supermarket and showcase all the fantastic flavours that are coming out of our diverse region.”

A Morrisons spokesman said: “Nigel was a great character to work with.

"He’s an incredibly-talented chef whose signature recipe has taken our new M Kitchen Hotpot to another level."
